The NBA is launching a new apparel line in conjunction with adidas for teams participating in Christmas Day games. The new uni’s dubbed “Big Color” will be the first time players playing on Christmas will wear special uniforms.
NBA Executive Vice President Global Merchandising Sal LaRocca stated:
We worked with adidas to amplify our long-standing tradition of playing on Christmas Day. BIG Color gives our players an enhanced look on the court and highlights one of the most visible dates during our season with a new and exciting range of products.”
The line will also include shooting shirts and warm up jackets with availiabilty beginning November 15, although the players won’t wear the jerseys until Chritsmas Day. It will also include merch for all NBA teams (yes including the Bobcats) and jerseys will sell for $89.99 (adult), $59.99 (kids)
Personally, I get the point but not really. I like the idea of it being special edition but they are…. not attractive. Not in the vein of Pittsburgh Steelers retro jersey ugly but they are just plain. They aren’t sparkly (you know I love my sparkles), there is a great variation on color or logo. Plus, the players won’t wear the jersey’s until Christmas Day. So will the NBA Store have some kind of fire sale or maybe there will be a big marketing push prior to? I’m confused. Anywhoo..
The Christmas Day lineup includes: Boston Celtics at Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks at L.A. Lakers, Oklahoma City Thunder at Miami Heat, Houston Rockets at Chicago Bulls and Denver Nuggets at L.A. Clippers. The games will air on either ABC or ESPN.
